CBS is turning the Paul McCartney Carpool Karaoke episode into a primetime special, the network announced Tuesday. The special will air August 20th, at 8 p.m. and feature never-before-seen footage of the segment of Carpool Karaokethat aired in June. In the segment, Corden and McCartney drove around Liverpool and visited many places referenced in the song “Penny Lane,” as well as McCartney’s childhood home. They also surprised locals with a surprise performance at a pub. The segment has nearly 130 million digital views across Facebook and YouTube. "We are so delighted CBS has given us this primetime special to make an hour-long version of this ‘Carpool Karaoke.’ Now everyone can see the joy of that concert and more of their chat,” said Late Late Show executive producer Ben Winston.
