Schon says he went to the ER Saturday night with abdominal pain, fearing the worst only to find he just needed to have his infected gallbladder removed.
"Want to thank you all for your very kind wishes," Schon wrote in a Tweet Monday. "This means everything to me ... your friendship is what motivates me to continue to create for you all."
While Journey is taking the year off, Schon has two gigs coming up with some former Journey band mates, including two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Gregg Rolie on February 22 and 23. He says he "should be good to go" but will postpone the shows if he can't perform at his best.
Gallbladder removal is a relatively routine procedure which rarely leads to complications in otherwise healthy people. After the successful procedure, Schon thanked his doctor, his hospital and his wife Michaele for being by his side during the scare.
"Just need a few days," Schon said over the weekend. "I've apparently had this for the last three-and-a-half years and didn't know it! I thought it was parasites! I'm feeling better [than] ever."
Schon is expected to record a new solo album this year.
